Mental Stamina and the Role It Plays in Business Growth

Today, we’re going to shed light on a bit of a different topic, but one that is equally as important: Mental Stamina. If you’re a Business Owner, you are very familiar with the constant juggling act required to run and grow your company. As we always say, ‘Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart.’ And it’s not just about upping your professional game; your personal wellness needs to go hand in hand. If you burn out in the beginning, you won’t get very far. So, how do you build mental strength in order to go the distance in business and be able to pick yourself up when the going gets tough?

First, let’s define Mental Stamina

Building resilience and confidence to overcome challenges and persist with difficult tasks over time (such as starting and growing a business).

As James Clear so aptly put it, “I accumulated small but consistent habits that ultimately led to results that were unimaginable when I started.” And that’s the golden ticket – creating a constant practice of routines that you can fall back onto, that will contribute to your success.

Here are some ways that you can positively contribute to your Mental Stamina

  1. Have a personal care routine – start the day off with a powerful workout or some kind of movement, practice mindfulness and meditation, and practice visualizing what your ideal life looks like (get really detailed here).
  2. Listen to your MIND and BODY and give it what it needs, i.e. eat brain-stimulating foods and eat regularly. As business owners, we can easily get caught up and lose track of time.
  3. Learn new vocabulary or a new language – being used to learning regularly can help with your business, which is also a constant learning process. If you haven’t tried Duolingo yet, what’s stopping you?
  4. Read more – not just professional books either. Fiction can be great for the soul and a welcomed mind distractor. We’re currently itching to dive into Of Time And Turtles, by Sy Montgomery.
  5. Get adequate sleep. Ideally, 7-9 hours per night. “A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in a doctor’s book.”
  6. Find a slice of joy in each day. Whatever JOY is to you! And if you don’t know yet what brings you true happiness, we encourage you to explore that. Tip: think about what your happiest times as a child were.
  7. LAUGH – it is so good for the soul, especially those deep belly laughs.
  8. Walk away from your computer for a while; sometimes a break can be a godsend. Set a timer if you need to.
  9. Spend some time in nature and make time for those that you love.
  10. Surround yourself with positive people and those who can help you see the bright side of things
  11. Have a support system – not only in the business realm but also personally. Not everyone will understand your journey, but having a few people who are in your corner can make all of the difference.
  12. Consider finding a Mentor or Coach.
  13. Focus on the toughest tasks in the day first. It can usually propel a productive day forward…checking things off of the list can help you feel accomplished.
  14. And always remember how far you’ve come! Reflection can go a long way when you’re working on building and maintaining mental strength. Further, don’t forget to celebrate the wins in your business no matter how big or small they may be.
This is not an exhaustive list but a good starting point. Do you have any tips on ways to improve your Mental Stamina? If so, we’d love to hear them in the comments!
